Coming March 30th, 2025...
Introducing Rowena Roubaix, a revitalization of an epic old race course used prior to the pandemic. All categories will start in The Dalles at Chenowith Elementary and ride the Historic Columbia River Highway up Rowena Crest and over to the town of Mosier, where they will then climb ~1300ft up Dry Creek Road before descending back State Road back to Rowena Crest and the historic highway to a finish in The Dalles. The race categories will dictate how many loops of this lasso riders will complete - 1 loop for Cat 3/4/5, 2 loops for Cat 3/4, then 3 loops for P/1/2.
Details:
- Be prepared for varying weather conditions on March 30th in the Columbia River Gorge, which could be sunny, rainy, cloudy, and/or very windy.
- Riders must be self-supported as there are no mechanics on course. However, a lead car and a tail car will be available to take riders back to the start in the event of a mechanical failure or crash if they choose to DNF (Do Not Finish).
- Flaggers will be stationed at major intersections, and lead/tail cars will be present, but the roads remain open to general traffic. Riders must stay aware of cars on the road.
- Riders who cross the double yellow line on the course will be disqualified by OBRA officials due to traffic and safety concerns.
- The course includes a gravel section in addition to smooth tarmac. The unpaved sector is a climb with smooth gravel.
- Most racers should use 28-32mm road tires for speed on tarmac sections, though gravel bikes are suitable and may provide more comfort on the climb.
- Respect all people and properties along the course. Wasco County and ODOT have granted permits with the expectation that the roads and locals are treated with respect.
- Maintaining good impressions is crucial to keeping the race alive in future years.
- Thank you for supporting grass-roots bicycle racing!
